A strong economy does not happen by accident. It is built by hardworking people, responsible businesses, good jobs, smart investment, reliable infrastructure, and a government that understands its proper role. Wyoming families are feeling the pressure. Property taxes, groceries, insurance, housing, childcare, healthcare, and the basic costs of living are all becoming harder to manage. For many families, the question is whether their children and grandchildren will be able to afford to build a life here.
Lowering the tax burden starts with taking pressure off Wyoming families and businesses. That means our government must be efficient, focused, and accountable. The state should ask hard questions about spending, duplication, outdated programs, and whether government is delivering real value. Efficiency alone is not enough. Wyoming will continue to grow, and our responsibility is to manage that growth intentionally so it becomes opportunity for our communities. A broader tax base means more private-sector activity, more jobs, more investment, and more people participating in the economy. It does not mean shifting the burden from one taxpayer to another. Real tax relief comes when Wyoming strengthens the economy enough to protect essential services while reducing pressure on citizens.
Government should not pick winners and losers. It should not use taxpayer dollars to subsidize ordinary business costs or reward favored industries. The proper role of government is to create the conditions where businesses can succeed, workers can earn a good living, and communities can grow without losing the character that makes them worth living in. That means focusing on the basics: roads, bridges, water systems, airports, housing infrastructure, workforce training, and safe communities. It means fair permitting, sensible regulation, and making it easier to build, hire, invest, and stay in Wyoming. Wyoming has natural advantages many states would love to have: energy, agriculture, minerals, open space, outdoor recreation, strong communities, and people who know how to work. We should put those advantages to work for Wyoming families.
We also need to be honest about the future. If young people cannot afford housing, if small businesses cannot find workers, if healthcare costs keep rising, and if infrastructure falls behind, economic growth becomes more difficult. All of these things matter if Wyoming is to remain a place where families and businesses can thrive. The goal should be simple: help Wyoming people keep more of what they earn, force government to be more efficient, broaden the tax base through real economic growth, and protect essential services our communities rely on.
